The Action Group NYC may be based in New York City, but volunteers’ interests span the nation! We work with several organizations in an effort to maximize volunteerism impact, and you may have specific races you would like to boost. Let’s work together, whether on one of our current campaigns or one of personal interest to you!
We’re following, and in some cases already influencing, several key races even though candidates in most races have not yet been chosen. But based on the strengths of incumbents or the closeness of statewide races, the 2023-2024 contests of interest include:
Presidential contests in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Other states, such as Florida, may come into play depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the Democratic and Republican candidates, as well as the impact of third-party candidates.
Senate races, most of which involve holding seats for Democrats, in Arizona, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin (Florida may come into play depending on how well the Democrat in the presidential race runs there).
Gubernatorial races in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and possibly Vermont, depending on who the Democratic candidate is — and whether incumbent moderate Republican Governor Phil Scott is upset in the primary by a far-right candidate.
A double handful of House races, even though gerrymandering has resulted in fewer competitive contests than might be hoped. Some of the most competitive races are in California (where the 13th and 27th districts are prime pickup opportunities), and Ohio (where the Democrats will be shoring up their hold on the 13th district).
And then there is the Colorado Third District, where Republican Representative Lauren Boebert won re-election by fewer than 500 votes out of more than 327,00 cast. Politics is local, but your distant volunteer efforts will have a national impact!
Action Group NYC volunteers have also made a difference in local races such as state legislature seats, especially those on the same ticket as hotly contested federal races. It’s no accident that in 2022 a wave of volunteer efforts captured a Senate and gubernatorial seat in Pennsylvania while flipping both houses of the state legislature!
